Gmail: Suspicious Login Attempts

September 18, 2012

A few colleagues informed me that for the past few days there have been suspicious login attempts on their Gmail accounts. The attempts seem to originate from China. Immediately, my colleagues enabled the 2-step verification on their Google account. The downside is that user has to authorize all devices and applications using the Google account. It is a lot better than having the account compromised.

The same happened to me 5 times so far, each from a different IP address and a different city in China. I’m not changing my password though, because I have no personal details on my account.

The hackers will have access to your emails; thus, your contacts. They may wish to use your contact list for spam or worse. Your call, but you may want to reconsider not changing your password.
