Carlos-talks-about-Reno-911

UPDATE:
Carlos Alazraqui sends a video update on his upcoming appearances. Yes he is aware that Reno is NOT in California, but remember that they shot most of RENO 911! in California. We only did 1 take for the video. Anyway, Carlos will be hitting the road with Cedric Yarbrough and Jill-Michele Meleán on some shows.

Now back to the original post:

Yeah, the cats are out of the bag. After months of keeping the not so well kept secret, someone at Comedy Central decided to spill out the beans by showing trailers and new promos for the show.

Spoiled spoiler alert!

Guess what? Deputy Garcia, Johnson and Kimball was not there. Apparently all three of them were killed during the accident at the Taco Stand.

The news first came weeks before the filming of RENO 911! Season Six. The show creators Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant and Kerri Kenney-Silver has delivered the ending to Season Five cliffhanger. Deputy James Garcia, Deputy Clementine Johnson and Deputy Cherisha Kimball were killed at the Taco Stand accident. Shocker!

Fans will want to know why the three Deputies were killed off. Well, send your complaints to Comedy Central here. Don’t forget to select “Reno 911” as the topic.

RENO 911! Season Six has been filmed, so in a way your favorite dead Deputies won’t be back unless they become a ghost or whatever in Season Seven. If there would be Season Seven. Then again, they could make the whole Season Six as a huge dream.

This one is an unspoiled spoiler alert, so don’t read the following paragraph if you don’t want to get spoiled. Is that right? Get spoiled. Anyway, do not read the next paragraph. Use a marker or liquid paper or anything to cover the next paragraph. As long as you don’t read it if you choose not to. OK, are you ready to not to read the next paragraph?

Deputy S. Jones mourns the loss of his partner Deputy James Garcia in a touching and explosive tributes to his fallen partner. In essence, Deputy James Garcia made his appearance just like what Graham Chapman did in “Monty Python Live At The Hollywood Bowl.”

Well, I don’t know if the scenes above made it to the final cut.

Anyway, originally Comedy Central signed the show for total of 5 seasons. After the fifth seasons ended, all the main cast members parted ways to do their own projects. There seemed to be some disconnects between RENO 911! creators and the rest of the main cast members. Exhibit A is “Balls Of Fury” which featured almost all of RENO 911! cast members with the exceptions of Carlos Alazraqui, Mary Birdsong, Wendi McLendon-Covey, Niecy Nash and Cedric Yarbrough. Robert Ben Garant Directed the movie, Thomas Lennon had a role and Kerri Kenney-Silver had a bit part. The fate of RENO 911! was uncertain until after the WGA Strike in 2007. There were some talk to bring RENO 911! back for its sixth season.

In 2008, Mary Birdsong who played Deputy Cherisha Kimball announced that she is moving back to the East Coast. Currently she is doing more theater work than acting in front of the cameras.

Wendi McLendon-Covey was busy fending off a “bike-riding-goat-lord” and was unable to rejoin RENO 911! cast. (Completely made up by me. Hi Bob!)

Carlos Alazraqui joined the Circus a month before Comedy Central ordered RENO 911! Season Six. Well, Alazraqui did say something about joining the Circus. (Completely made-up by me.)

Even though RENO 911! is back for the sixth season, some fans will be mourning the loss of their favorite deputy/deputies.

OK, I’m a little bit sleepy here. I gotta go to sleep. I’ll update this post later.

Before I ended this post (for now), some lucky Colleges will be visited by Carlos Alazraqui and Cedric Yarbrough. I’ll post the schedule soon.

I smell a contract dispute in there somewhere

    • March 24, 2009 12:02 pm

All I know is that the cast members do not get any residuals at all. I don’t think there is any contract dispute. I can say that James Garcia is one of the most popular character in the show.

It is IMPOSSIBLE for cast members not to get residuals. Read a contract before you comment about it. An actor, a writer, or a director, cannot negotiate away their residual rights. Now, if the producers of Reno 911 aren’t PAYING residuals, that’s another story. Tracy Ullman was notoriolus for withholding residual payments to her show writers. They have taken her to court more than once.

    • March 29, 2009 1:49 am

Just talked to them, and I was mistaken about the residuals. It is something else and complicated.

      • June 7, 2016 4:07 pm

So… what was it? Why were their contracts not renewed for season 6?

Sorry to see them go, but every good series can withstand a cast shake-up every know and then. It keeps the writing from getting stale.

Wow the new cast members suck and the show has died. How sad comedy central forced them off the show and then tried to milk another season from what was left. Ihope its an april fools joke they all are on or someone at comedy central should loose thier job. It was a train wreck of a show. Didnt flow, no chemistry and the new characters just suck..make sure everyone complains maybe if we are lucky they can salvage the season and shoot new episodes before any of that poison they have now oozes back on the air.. I hate when they try to switch up casts for longer series and then try to make you think it ll be so much better..nope sucked donkey balls I knopw Im done watching and so far everyone I know is done too..

Wow, I never thought a show that I loved so much could be ruined so fast. The first episode of Season 6 was awful and I cannot think of any reason how it could get better. The 2 new characters are totally lame and not at all funny. Garcia and Johnson were 2 of the funniest characters on the show and they kill them off? Kimball was funny, too, but the other 2 were funnier. And even Terry, who is normally a complete riot, was just dumb. And is it just me or did he get really chubby? Not that I care but I thought he was a lot thinner in past episodes. Anyway, I’m bummed out about Reno 911 now. I really used to look forward to watching it. Now I think I’ll look forward to skipping it. Damn shame. What has Comedy Central done??

The show is ruined for me. No more TiVo’ing the new episodes. Don’t really care.

They should have kept Garcia, Kimball, and Clemmy. The new guys aren’t funny. I used to laugh out loud watching RENO 911. Even Terry didn’t get a giggle out of me this time. Would have if it was one of the old deputies interacting with him. The new guys just aren’t pulling it off.

Goodbye RENO 911. It was fun while it lasted.

STUPID MOVE! Boycott RENO 911!!!!! You tell ’em Very.

But seriously folks…this show jumped the shark about three seasons ago when the exec producers decided not to equally feature their cast members. Time to be put to sleep.

    Stupidest move doing that.

What a bunch of IDIOTS!! They killed one of the best shows on cable not to mention a very lucrative DVD series. Doesnt Danny DaVetto get it, if you change the formula…..its different. In this case its not only different but not at all funny. The old cast had chemistry….the new guys are horrible. Reno911 is DOA.

I do sooo miss the old cast. I really hate the way they make up stories to give to the viewers when the truth of the matter is probably that the executive powers that be are just assholes and lost the original cast because of that fact!! KUDOS to Johnny I am with you rid my TV screen of Stewart, save some money there, and bring back Garcia and Clemmie!! There are too few laugh out loud funny shows on these days, bring um back and make your viewers happy! LISTEN TO US!!!

you all are crazy! the only thing that matters in a show like this is writing and staying fresh. which is what they are doing. You could throw 3 of the people on this whack panel to replace kimball clemmy and garcia and not miss a beat. how could those 3 make or break the show? dont get me wrong – garcia was awesome but life goes on. you all are acting like this show pulled a mash on us and now has a political undertone trying to get across a message. it still ok

    • June 7, 2016 4:10 pm

You may or may not be correct. Depends on how improvised the dialogue was. Writing for a show like this is probably a very loose framework, with the jokes/antics/dialogue being spontaneous. If so, you’re wrong. The 3 actors *were* part of the writing process.

In any event, the new actors are terrible, and season 6 was the worst season of them all. I don’t think anyone would disagree. So, that’s something to consider, at least.

  15. April 18, 2009 8:16 am

RENO 911 SUX it Season 6! Yeah the producers SUCK for getting rid of “Garcia” and “Clemmie”…Mary Birdsong’s character – eh? She wasn’t part of the ORIGINAL cast and I never connected with her character….then again her character wasn’t as developed and she wasn’t on the show as long as the other folks. The folks to blame for A LOT of canceled shows are the fucking WGA and The Network Execs/Producers! What a bunch of Dumbasses!

Bottomline, I still Tivo RENO 911 but I don’t think it’s as funny as it could be.

What a pity…a great program while it lasted. I agree 100 percent. I remember how I couldn’t wait to see the interplay between the original cast members.Once someone introduced me to the show, I went on Ebay the day after trying to find all the seasons to catch up.
Believe it or not, when the formula is right–it’s right. You can’t bottle it . It’s called chemistry, I suppose. The original crew had it–in spades.

Reno 911! used to be my favorite show, but when I tuned in for the new season, I was very dissapointed. Clemmy was my favorite character and the other two were great as well. The new episodes are not nearly up to the standards of seasons 1-5. I really doubt that this show will be renewed for another season and that is a shame. The producers should have realized that these changes would be unpopular and people would probably stop watching because of them. It is a shame to see one of the smartest and funniest shows on tv get so awful so fast.

I think anyone who thinks the new cast is horrible is an idiot and does not know comedy. First, I’d like to say that Garcia was amazing on the show, but Clemmy and Kimball really were kind of eh. It’s sucks Garcia isn’t going to be around because his character was so well developed. Clemmy’s “im a cop, a whore, and a hippy druggy” shtick just wore thin. Kimball was just boring and not that funny.

I’ve seen two episodes of the new season and I think it’s the best work they’ve done. Season 3,4 and 5 all kind of lost the subtle humor of the characters. It was more of “these are the characters, and here is the wacky situation where you can almost smell the punchline”. They went for cheap laughs and it wasn’t good.

NOW, you’ve got State Alumni who has great rapport with half of the cast. And Ian Roberts from UCB who’s character alone is funnier than Clemmy and Kimball could ever be. That guy is an improv genius. It’s too bad Garcia isn’t around because it would’ve been a perfect storm of amazingness.

It’s like the past 3 seasons they went for the kind of demographic who think Carlos Mencia is funny. I think they lost their integrity a little bit there. It’s clear to me that people who don’t like the new cast do not enjoy smart humor. Cheap, predictable and generic jokes are what make the Joe the Plumbers, Larry the cable guy and Dane Cook fans of this world happy. You know, the kind of idiots who think the phrase “Shake N Bake” from Talledaga Nights is funny.

You really think Jon Stewart is an idiot Johnny? I can already tell you didn’t vote for Obama. I know what your thinking, he’s liberal, jew media. But I guess that’s anything that criticizes conservatives in any way. What a bunch of whiny little babies. Stick to drinking Budweiser, watching football and laughing at Two and a Half Men. It should be instant and spontaneous as Reno 911 was. If you have to sit analyze and break it down to get a laugh why not just shove the stick further up your ass and save the time?? And poster 22 most be a Reno 911 writer as he thinks he is better then the working class people with that typical democrate I am better then everyone now give me stuff for me and screw everyone else attitude. I’m sitting here in Germany watching this show on the internet. First thought that came to mind was, “What the hell happened to the show?” Whoever said it was awful, terrible, or ruined was just being kind. I could not even finish watching the episode, because it was so poorly written and acted. Nothing made me laugh. It only created disdain for a show that used to make me shed tears for laughter. Extremely disappointing is all I can add to the other comments that degrade the show that once upon a time was worth watching. Also, I am assuming that Ted must be one of the writers. Nobody could possible consider this crap to be funny or witty unless he had a personal interest in the crap. Now, Ted, go wipe yourself. You’ve got 911 all over yourself.

So 37prime, what really happened? This was my favorite show and they killed off 3 great characters without explanation? What exactly was so complicated?

  29. Dawn permalink
    July 8, 2009 2:35 pm

Hi 37prime, yea really, what happend? We are dying to know who messed up our favorite comedy, killed off the best Deputies and turned Season 6 into just an awful pain to watch. What was the complication?????. You do get a sense the creators may have had some conflict with the Garcia character since he was hardly on in Season 5. Possible jealousy or ego issues? Because it seems like Garcia was one of the most liked and popular.

At least I thought Garcia’s character had the most potential, if they would have given him more air time. And Clemmie was the best. What a cool chick. She was hilarious in every scene. We needed more episode with those two funny people.

Well, I hope all three of the actors bumped from season 6 find better and more rewarding work to showcase their talents.

And I really tried my best to give Season 6 a chance but it was just painful to watch. Sorry! Really, it is just dumb!

    • July 8, 2009 4:29 pm

I can’t really answer your question.
There is no doubt that the Garcia character was popular. Some do say that Garcia outshines Dangle and Junior characters. Some fans complaint that they saw less Garcia on season 5.

In the end, the creators of the show decided to make changes even though many thought such moves were dumb. Killing popular characters served well as publicity stunt, but in this case they’re not coming back.

Bot Carlos Alazraqui (Deputy Garcia) and Cedric Yarbrough (Deputy Jones) had been promoting the RENOO 911! all across the United States. By far they have the best chemistry on and off the set.

I cannot comment on Thomas Lennon, Robert Ben Garant and Kerri Kenney-Silver’s decision to killed off those characters. So far, the “dead characters” were completely written off the show.

I have not seen much of Season 6. According to a cast member, a scene involving Deputy Jones paying tribute to his fallen partner (Garcia) did not make it in any episodes. Edit: Apparently it survived the edits, and featured in one of the episodes.

I’ll try elaborating more in the near future.

Some of you really need to stop generalizing people into “you hate the new makeover on the show therefore you must hate Obama.. etc. etc.” It’s rather pathetic and puerile to simplify everything into such black and white terms. I’m really disappointed with Comedy Central this year. First they canceled Jon Dore, my favourite show, then they ruined Reno 911!, which was my second.

I think it would have been alright if they slowly added new characters and eventually killed off the 3, but right now this show has no chemistry, lacks any humor, and the timing is definitely off.

And for the people saying it needed “smart humor”, why fix something that isn’t broken? If they wanted to have a show with smart humor make a completely different show…This way I would be happy and the retarded people that think the show is better would be happy.

The show is over. It ended. That’s what happened. You can’t top a show that is over. It was created and produced. We all watched it and enjoyed and loved it. It is over. Find a new show. Move on with your life and let go.

  42. January 3, 2010 10:46 pm

There was an attempt to fix something that wasn’t broke. It will not work, there is a disconnect between the viewers and the new cast members, and a void that can’t be filled. Many times, when producers try to improve on an already good show, it results in failure. Never kill off a character either, you never know when they might be needed back. Send them on a trip, a special mission in the case of these guys.

Carlos and Cedric always made up stories why Garcia off the show.

      The truth is:
In RENO:911!, Garcia’s character was killed along with Clemmy and Kimball.
Tell Thomas Lennon, Kerri Kenney-Silver and Robert Ben Garant that you don’t like them killing Garcia, Clemmy and Kimball in RENO 911!.

And that was Reno 911s official Jumping the Shark moment. As opposed to Dangles shark jumping, Birdsong and Alrazaqui quitting killed it for me.

You could see it was going to happen when Garcia got maybe one line per episode through the previous season. Very sad end for a very very funny show.

For clarification: Alazraqui, Birdsong and McLendon-Covey did not quit the show. The show creators did not ask them back in the show, essentially fired them.

NO CARLOS! NO! YOU DONT DO SUMMER HEIGHTS HIGH. Chris Lilley is nothing more than a fucking moron who has the pull to get cameras on him.

Season six sucked! Clementine, Garcia & Kimbal’s replacements were horrible. Garcia & Jones were awesome partners. Picking on Garcia was fun. The characters played perfectly off each other.
In Season 6, Niece Nash had none of her energy. Trudy’s character was different – not funny, just dry. Should have saved the money and made more Brickleberry

The new Reno 911 defunded is pretty decent though, they brought everyone back, even most of the supported actors.
