I have a Sony HDR-UX7 Handycam with an IMAC, I am not able to import video to IMOVIE 08. My IMAC is able to recognize my camera as an Disk ICON but I am unable to view or import to IMOVIE. When I click on the Disk ICON a folder named DVD_RTAV is there. When I open that folder I have 3 new folders: VR_MANGR.BUP, VR_MANGER.IFO, VR_MOVIE.VRO. I am at a loss, Please help.

Sony HDR-UX7 is officially supported in iMovie '08, but you need Mac OS X Leopard on Intel-Mac. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1014 If it still doesn't work, trash all iMovie '08 preferences, repair disk permission. Another troubleshooting step is to create a new user account and see if you could import the movie using the new account.

unbeleivable - Steve Jobs demoed this camera and proclaimed it an unqualified advancement on HD technology last fall - and it was to be the peak of evolution to be used with iMovie - so it doesn't work with final cut? Who dropped the ball?

Actually, Steve Jobs demoed Panasonic HDC-SD5 which is working great with iMovie '08, Final Cut Express 4, and Final Cut Pro 6 in 2007. Panasonic HDC-SD9 didn't come out until 2008. Send Apple a feedback.

I have a GT5408 from gateway. It has 3GB ram. running VISTA with SP1. When ever I plug a PCIe video card in my sound goes away. the HD Sigmatel shows up in the device manager, but when I go to sound in the control panel says sound device not installed.
I have tried a GE Force 7300 and just bought a GE Force 8500GT.
The 8500GT states it will run on a 300 watt PS.
I have a 5200 plugged into the PCI slot and everything works fine.
I have already tried audio drivers and even went back to the old drivers.

That seems to be a PCI-Express related problem. There’s a recent BIOS update (2008.01.08), Get it here

I also have the HG10 What is the best thing to convert MTS files into without them being too big and also retaining video quality?
AVCHD is a heavily compressed format, thus the MTS files are relatively small. I need to know what Operating System you have. If you're using Windows XP or Vista, I'd recommend getting Sony’s Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition. AVCHD was jointly developed by Sony and Panasonic. If you're using Mac, you need at least iMovie '08. Final Cut Express 4 will work too. I'd say copy the structure of the hard drive to preserve the source. Get the trial and see if this would solve your problems. If you like it and willing to get it, buy Sony’s Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition.

I have Windows Vista. I used the backup program supplied with the amera. I think that the structure is the same.

OK. I know for sure that Sony Vegas can read and edit mt2s files natively. Get the trial and see if this would solve your problems. If you like it and willing to get it, buy Sony’s Vegas Movie Studio 8 Platinum Edition.

The problem is that after I back-uped the files in my computer I canot open them because of the extension mts.

What Operating System and what program are you using? You need to preserve the folder structure of all the files from the HG10. That way you can alway import the clips.

I just bought a Canon HG10 and I have problems with playing the movies I made on my laptop. I’m new in the movie business and probably I’m making something wrong. Could somebody explain to me what to do?

I’d be glad to troubleshoot with you. Can you describe what the problem is?
